The history of Hotel Ørkin goes way back to 18th April 1958 when the Faroese seamen’s home formally opened down by the main harbour in Reykjavik. At that time it was a seamen’s home for Faroese sailors that were fishing in the seas around Iceland. The living accommodations aboard the boats were not as good as they are now. So it was good to come ashore and stay at the seamen’s, have a cup of coffee, homemade bread, read the latest Faroese newspapers and rest before going out to sea again. For these sailors, the seamen’s home was a home away from home and now nearly sixty years later it still is for the Faroese people who travel to Iceland for business or leisure. The current facility Hotel Ørkin (The Hotel Ark) was built in 1991 and has been renovated many times since then. The Hotel (seamen’s home Ørkin) is own and operated by the Faroese Seamen´s mission which is a Christian based mission in the Faroese Islands.
Today we try to keep the same homely atmosphere in the Hotel, bake fresh bread with breakfast and there is always free coffee and tea available during the day with freshly baked cakes in the afternoons for guest and visitors and of course, the Faroese newspapers and magazines are available.
The Hotel Ørkin own by a Non-Profit Organisation established by the Faroese Seamen Mission

Cosy and homely
Lovely hotel with superb staff who are very hospitable yet professional. Excellent buffet breakfast as in previous reviews. So nice to come back to coffee and teas of various types with cake in the dining area. A very welcoming feel to the place. Our bedroom was on the top floor with a flight of steps up to a platform which had 3 single beds. Below were a comfy sofa and chair and table and TV and bathroom. Felt very spacious. Would definitely return and would 100% recommend. The centre of Reykjavik is about a 20min walk away.
We selected this hotel on Hotels.com. The choice is great. A wonderful place especially who wants to have a rental car. Free breakfast. Excellent staff especially Monica, Aganishca, Sabrina, Emilia & Marius. Great wonderful staff. Room ok with a view. The staff goes all the way to help the guests. Can book trips from the hotel. Free tea/ coffee with cake all day long. Excellent!!
Nice, clean, quiet, easy walk to City Center
Stayed in a loft family room that was roomy enough for 4 adult family travellers. Breakfast was buffet style, good and plentiful. Everything was clean and well-kept. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay here and found the walk to the city centre, restaurants, and grocery shops to be very manageable.
Had a great stay for 6 nights. Staff were friendly, room was clean and not a bad location. Lovely continental breakfast with fresh cake in the afternoon/ evening on offer. Would recommend to anyone wanting a basic but clean base to stay when visiting Iceland.
